Indiana Jones

Who doesn't like a good movie that brings back fond memories of the past?!
Sunday night, Derek and I went to see Indiana Jones - our church had rented out one of the theaters at our local Hitching Post Theaters - and about 120 people from the church got together and enjoyed this fun movie. I'm not going to give any of it away - but a fun movie that I would recommend for a good time. Now if I can just get the theme music out of my head...

Beware the Thai Chili!!!!

Well, to celebrate a Friday (for they are always wonderful things!), Derek and I went for Thai food here in Tehachapi. One of the dishes we ordered had these small greenbeans on the side and so I popped one in my mouth -- hey, I love green beans. Instantly I knew it was NOT a greenbean, apparently it was a Thai chili. OH MY GOSH - it was the hottest thing I have ever tasted - instantly burning my tongue, making my eyes and nose water, I couldn't talk! I just let the ice from my water melt in my mouth. The waitress/owner came by and said, "Oh no, that's a Thai chili, you're not supposed to eat those!" -- Yeah, well I had already figured that out!

So lesson learned....and for anyone else who likes Thai food, here's what the little buggers look like:

STAY AWAY FROM THEM! From a Thai food website: "The most famous one must be 'prig kee nu'. It's a very short, small green and red pepper. It is about one inch in length. It is the hottest of the pepper family."

Lazy Weekend

This weekend was a nice, low-stress weekend...I got to sleep in and everything!

Here is Derek and the pups watching TV:

I got to do some gardening...my roses are starting to bloom -- these give one big round of blossoms and then don't do much the rest of the season:

I have one little columbine that has bloomed -- I love it because it's a transplant from San Clemente:

I also got to go with some of the Middle-Schoolers at Church to go see Prince Caspian at the movies -- have to say that it was VERY well-done and I enjoyed it a lot!

2 Years!

Just wanted to give a 'shout out' to my man, my one and only love....my honey!....my husband of 2 years!!! :) Derek and I had our second anniversary yesterday and I kept thinking of fun moments and memories. Of course, 2 years ago today I was on a beach in Hawaii, and right now I'm looking out my office window in Bakersfield....but hey, maybe that palm tree in the distance can be my pretend Hawaii! We played it low key since we've both been working a lot, but we have plans for a dinner out on Saturday night that I'm really looking forward to - a local little Italian restaurant, La Belle Amore. This 'marriage thing' may be a roller coaster at times, but I can't imagine my life without Derek. Love you, Honey.

Mockingbird?

Okay...so we have this bird...who just will NOT shut up at night. I'm all for having a bird friendly backyard - heck I make sure they have food....but this one! this one just sings away for hours around 3AM. I looked on the internet which said that, commonly, unmated male mockingbirds will sing in the night - so I'm thinking that might be it....but I haven't actually seen the little bugger so I haven't been able to make a positive identification.

I also brought in my hummingbird feeder last weekend and cleaned it up - it had been rather icky all covered in dirt, etc. So I put some fresh sugar water in it and sure enough the little hummers found it within a week. They are so cute!

Oh, and if anyone is looking for a yummy dinner for those summer nights, check out this recipe for a chicken-orzo salad with goat cheese:
