Just Your Typical October Weekend

Here we are being "home-bodies" -- Michelyn got to wash the dogs

Derek stayed true to his football team - the Rams...but with the season being 0-6 so far...it can be a challenge

And here we are "preparing" for Halloween. On an errand to K-mart, we bought three bags of candy for the trick-or-treaters later this month....both of us just could not restrain ourselves - and boy did we pick out good candy too! We're coming clean - here are the wrappers (and this is only some of them!)....guess we'll have to go back to K-mart for some more...maybe the morning of Halloween?

Getting Closer?

Well...we think we're getting a little closer to our fence. We were told at one point, last Wednesday would be the start date...so we figured at least Thursday. Got a call from the construction person who said he was finishing the job he was working on Thursday and if it didn't rain, he could start our fence Friday. While it was cloudy, it didn't rain....but we didn't see any fence posts in the ground. We were glad to see, however, that the guy brought his tools by to leave at the house, we're assuming to start Monday...so let's keep our fingers crossed! Gotta love "Tehachapi time."

A Stick?

I went to fill the hummingbird feeder and was about to brush off this stick off the hanger/post. I paused because it looked like it had appendages wrapped around it...and so I wondered if it was a stick bug! I quickly got our camera to take a picture in case it was - figured, the only down side would be I'd have a picture of a stick.....but then I relocated it to the plant just to the side and sure enough it moved its legs and antenna - quite amazing!!! So, this is definitely a bug...and you gotta love Tehachapi!

Saturday Morning Nature

The Western Bluebird...ok, you may have to save this picture and zoom in on your computer & it doesn't have the most blue on it, but I promise it's a bluebird! We actually have 4 or 5 that fly around our backyard, they seem to be nesting in the oak tree by the creek in the back...I think I read somewhere that they like mistletoe. This might be a juvenile....I love to watch them because they're fluffy and pudgy...the males are quite striking...as they fly around, you just see these beautiful flashes of blue! Here's our local scrub jay...a fun bird to watch as they hop around trying to bury acorns.

Successful transplant! This beautiful rose bush came to Tehachapi courtesy of my Dad & Launa...we weren't sure if it would like the move, but ever since the drip system was set up, it has flourished with the regular watering.
